How this tool works

Useful estimates. Clear assumptions.

The 2026/27 year runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. We assume a New Zealand tax resident, one main employment, regular earnings and no other income. Figures are annualised estimates, not a payroll filing. Select IETC only after confirming full-year eligibility. Employer KiwiSaver, ESCT, benefits, child support and special deduction rates are excluded.

A little clarity

Good questions. Clear answers.

Is this an official Inland Revenue calculator?

No. Free Tax Calculator NZ is an independent estimate tool. Our rates are linked to official sources, but we are not affiliated with or endorsed by Inland Revenue.

Why could my payslip show a different amount?

We annualise steady earnings. Payroll rounding, secondary jobs, tailored codes, partial years, benefits and irregular lump sums can produce different results. Check your employer’s calculation or Inland Revenue for payroll decisions.

Do I need an account?

No. All calculators work without an account. An optional account lets you save and reopen calculations.

Are my salary details sent to the server?

Calculations run in your browser. Saving sends inputs to your account on this server. Inputs included in page URLs are also visible to the server when you open or reload those links. Review a link before sharing it.
